Senior Firmware Engineer, Ulverston, Edinburgh or Aberdeen

Tritech International is looking to hire an Electronic Design Engineer in Firmware to join the company in an exciting new phase of the company’s development. Having recently been acquired by General Oceans the company is eager to continue to develop its product portfolio of subsea Sonar equipment. The Firmware Engineer will play a key role within the multi-disciplinary design team. The design team specialises in mechanical and electronic hardware, acoustics, application software and embedded software (CPU and FPGA). The Firmware Engineer will be responsible for firmware design to form part of a multichannel analogue and digital signal sampling system required to operate in real time. The role will be based either at Tritech’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ulverston, on the edge of the lake district national park, or in Tritech’s design offices in either Edinburgh or Aberdeen.

Reports to: Engineering Director/Manager

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and development of Firmware for Sonar equipment: VHDL or Verilog.
    • Simulation, test benches, synthesis and timing closure for each design.
  • New product inception, definition, design and testing.
  • Systems design through digital signal processing.
  • Keeping the design teams up to speed with the latest firmware development tools.

 

Qualifications

Key requirements

o   The successful candidate will ideally possess a tertiary degree or equivalent qualification within a relevant subject (ideally Electronics or Electrical Engineering), however applicants with qualifications within other relevant disciplines will also be considered.

o   3 to 5 years previous experience in a similar role is preferred with demonstrable achievements in FPGA designs.

o   Experience of working with Xilinx devices (Spartan, Virtex, Ultrascale, Ultrascale+) and the Xilinx development platforms (Vivado, Vitis).

o   The use of lab-based test and measurement equipment.

o   Experience in software and/or hardware development.
