My Tritech: Maria Adams

My Tritech: Maria Adams

I had always been inspired to join the US Army as my uncle was a Master Sergeant and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I signed up after leaving school at 17 and was soon working as an Imagery Analyst. In my role, I contributed to comprehensive national mapping agency reports and provided imagery to support current intelligence operations. I loved the diversity of the role and I was lucky enough to travel. I spent time in Germany, Hawaii and even lived in Korea for a year.

After eight years, I decided to leave the military and was honourably discharged in 2002. I still wanted to be involved in the intelligence field so I went on to work for companies based in the defence and military sector. I also decided to go back to university and gained my Associates degree in 2011, Bachelor’s degree in 2013 and then Master’s degree in Business Administration and Technology Management in March 2016, which I knew would open up more doors to me.

I was attracted to Tritech as I had worked with radar and imagery systems but never sonars. I was really intrigued to learn more about this area and I knew I could learn a lot from the company.

I joined Tritech in 2013 as an Executive Administrative Assistant at the Tritech North America office. I am responsible for sales enquiries, quotes, invoicing and orders as well as customer service. I also support the sales and marketing activity which can include organising and partaking in trade exhibitions.

Sonar systems are very complex and I’m still learning new things every day, which can be challenging, but I work with a great team who are very supportive. We’re a small office in Texas so there is definitely a lot to keep me busy and I enjoy the variety of work this provides. I also have regular contact with my colleagues in the UK so you always feel like part of the bigger picture within Tritech.

Out with my role, I am involved with the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District. As a mentor and volunteer, I work with children anywhere from 6th grade to 12th grade and spend one-on-one time with them to discuss any issues they’re experiencing whether they are related directly to school or not. I offer help and advice or sometimes just an ear to listen. It’s so rewarding to work with children and see their grades and social skills improve as we continue to work together. As a Mom to three children I appreciate how important these kinds of programs are for younger children and I am thrilled to be a part of it.
